"BADHAI HO" Review

Badhai Ho is entertaining


Badhai Ho tackles a serious subject comically, without losing on entertainment or your attention, says Sudarshana Dwivedi.

Set against the backdrop of Delhi, 'Badhaai Ho' is a fun family saga. When a middle-aged couple Priyamvada Kaushik (Gupta) and her husband Jeetender (Rao) get pregnant unexpectedly, all hell breaks loose. The film tactfully handles the subject of middle-aged romance and the situational humour around middle-class values and social system hits all the right notes.

The couple soon becomes a topic of gossip within their social circles and are a cause of embarrassment to their adult sons Nakul (Khurrana) and Gullar (Shardul Rana) who are surprised that their parents still have an active love life. Their grandmother, played by Sikri, is shocked too. The film keeps stereotypes and clichés at bay. When the couple breaks the news to their family, hilarious situations ensue.

While the sons are left red-faced, the neighbourhood brims with gossip. The makers take you on a nostalgia trip as the parents romance each other, with ’90s music playing in the background. Their on-screen romance is endearing, and they steal the show with their prolific acting skills, keeping in sync with the energised younger lot. Khurrana fits the bill perfectly as an embarrassed son, the social pressure hampers his relationship with his girlfriend Reene (Malhotra). Sikri as dadima is admirable.
The film will keep you entertained throughout its runtime. The music is in tune with the script and fits the mood perfectly. Packing some hilarious punches, 'Badhaai Ho'’s narrative doesn’t dilute the social mes
